It felt like an obvious win when Wizard101 arrived on consoles last fall, but while the Xbox and PlayStation are fine consoles, the obvious missing link was the Nintendo Switch, a launch on which we knew was coming but didn’t have a date. After all, everyone with kids loves the Switch and how easy it is for kids to just pick up and play. Good news: KingsIsle announced this week that the game will roll out to the Nintendo Switch next week for the price of $20, getting players access to the first five storylines. While the press release doesn’t mention a date, the game’s official site makes clear that the launch date is January 13th, 2026.
“Wizard101 will be available to purchase on the Nintendo Switch for $19.99 USD and will include full access to the first of the current five story arcs of the Wizard101 storyline. As players progress further, content can be unlocked through the purchase of Crowns, the Wizard101 in-game premium currency. Wizard101 is also available to download for free on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and players can enjoy free content up to the recently expanded Free-to-Play area in the Oasis zone of Krokotopia.”
Worth noting is that cross-platform progression is not currently possible, so you will have to pick your platform and stick with it over the longer term if you want to make forward motion, though Switch players will still be playing on the core console server (meaning Switch players won’t overlap with PC players, either). But it’s on the Switch, and that means you can take it with you wherever. We call that a win.
