Crimson Desert Trailer Gets Up Close With The Cast and Their Acting Process

Yesterday, Pearl Abyss introduced us to some of the talent voicing the major characters in Crimson Desert, including Alec Newman as Kliff, Stewart Scudamore as Oongka and Rebecca Hansen as Damiane. If that wasn’t enough, a new trailer is available, which delves deeper into their characters and how they’re portrayed.

For example, Damiane is, as Hansen describes, “very down to earth, a fierce fighter, and headstrong. She will stand up for what she believes in regardless of who is telling her otherwise.” Which is funny because while “willful” in real life, she described herself as “naturally conflict-avoidant.” “So getting to channel that side of myself into her was an absolute joy.”

Interestingly, Damiane mentions that she’s on the run and how she never really told Kliff the reason why. Further hints at her backstory? Time will tell. As for Oongka, Scudamore describes him as having a “passion for everything,” but contrary to providing a more “bestial” performance as an Orc, he’s more “philosophical.”

“He had that sort of world-wise, nomadic element,” yet most of his communication is through grunts. “It was finding those levels of grunts, but finding that was challenging,” says Scudamore.

Finally, there’s Kliff, and he’s pretty much what you would have expected from trailers thus far: Stoic, fiercely loyal, having a “really strong moral compass.” “You could be forgiven for thinking that he is kind of, you know, a closed book, but when you meet him with other characters, particularly, his Greymanes, his people, you begin to see him open out as a character a little bit,” said Newman.

He also briefly mentioned the game’s combat, calling it “absolutely astonishing,” having “never seen anything like it.” Between the different playstyles for each character and all the options available, from magic and wrestling maneuvers to bare-handed strikes and ranged weaponry, we’re inclined to agree.

Launching on May 19th, Crimson Desert will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. There’s still much to learn before then, though marketing director Will Powers has some friendly advice for those who demand more information.
