Code Vein 2 Details Its Vast, Secret-Filled World and Combat in New Overview Trailer

As the launch of Code Vein 2 nears, Bandai Namco has dropped a nearly nine-minute overview trailer, detailing everything you need to know about the “dramatic exploration action-RPG.” Of course, there are plenty of new details to glean as well, from different areas and Drain Attacks to unique Formae and enemies.

We also learn more about the Resurgence, the world-ending event, and the threat presented by the Luna Rapacis. Only by strengthening the seals of the four heroes can the player, a Revenant Hunter, prevent the catastrophe. Together with Lou Magwell, they travel back in time, encountering and fighting alongside said heroes in a story that’s “about the same” length, “perhaps a little bit longer,” as the original.

That partnership forms a significant part of Code Vein 2’s combat system. While you can fight alongside a Revenant by summoning them, making use of different Link stats, Assimilation – which sees both characters fusing – is helpful against stronger enemies. If you’re downed, your partner can revive you, but this leaves them incapacitated (so try not to die again).

Drain Attacks return, and they’re once again used to obtain Ichor for special attacks known as Formae. However, stagger an enemy enough, and you can unleash special Drain Attacks that deal more damage. As for Formae, they’re divided into melee skills, long-range magic, and buffs to support both characters.

There are also Bequeathed Formae for manifesting weapons like twin gatling guns and even a massive greatsword for added damage. Of course, plenty of defensive Formae also exist, allowing you to guard, counter or evade attacks. Various Blood Codes further enhance build variety, offering different stats, defenses, etc.
