An MOP commenter remarked this week that we’re in the “Concordian Age” for shooters now and that we can’t expect Marathon to succeed – but Bungie is clearly hoping otherwise, and the numbers from the Steam demo sure seem to suggest the studio is on track for a hit. We’re about to find out who’s right, as the shooter officially launches this afternoon at 1 p.m. EST on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox X|S.
Bungie dropped an FAQ for the game ahead of the rollout, reminding players that they’ll need to redownload the launch build (the server slam build won’t work). The launch build includes all the factions and Runner shells and three zones too. Outpost itself will go live Friday (not today), followed by ranked and Cryo Archive later in March. It also kinda sounds like the devs are expecting login queues, so be warned.
You can still pick up the game for $40 or $60 bucks, depending on how many deluxe bits and bobs you think you need; overall, the business model is pretty player-friendly and notably low on FOMO.
