If there’s any Blizzard property that’s fallen on the hardest of times, it has to be the once-red hot StarCraft RTS series that’s barely an afterthought today. So how cool would it be if this franchise saw a genuine comeback? It may be in the works, as Blizzard and Nexon have long been partnering on what looks like an open-world shooter — and the Western studio is hiring openly now.
A new job listing recently popped up on Blizzard’s website for a “Lead Designer, Innovation,” looking for someone to head up an Unreal Engine title that sounds very much like the StarCraft game we know to be in development: “We are seeking a highly creative and experienced Lead Game Designer to spearhead gameplay and content innovations for an upcoming AAA open-world shooter.”
Readers will recall that last year, Nexon partnered with Blizzard to work on a game or several games in its StarCraft universe. The development of a StarCraft open-world shooter between the companies was then confirmed this past February by a Korean news outlet. All of this appears to be in the early stages, yet the possibilities of what could emerge from this are definitely exciting for long-time fans of the series.
