Meta is discontinuing Transfer, Quest’s health monitoring function, on the finish of the month.

The function first arrived as Oculus Transfer over 4 years in the past, simply after the launch of Quest 2. If enabled, it tracks your actions within the headset to record health statistics like energy burned, minutes spent shifting, and depth of exercises, each totaled and damaged out by app.

Health has been an surprising breakout use case of standalone headsets, with apps like Supernatural, Les Mills, and FitXR constructing a userbase of paying subscribers, and rhythm video games like Beat Saber and Pistol Whip are used for exercises too.

In 2022 Meta added assist for viewing your Transfer information within the Quest cellphone app and syncing it to Apple Well being, then in 2023 to Android Well being Join too, integrating your VR/MR exercises along with your present health monitoring setup.

Oculus Transfer: Quest Will get Constructed-In Health Monitoring

Oculus Quest 2 is getting an official, cross-app health tracker named Oculus Transfer. Transfer was revealed in the direction of the start of this week’s Fb Join Keynote. CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the service simply after asserting Quest 2 itself. A picture of the service confirmed Transfer monitoring stats like energy burned,

In an electronic mail to Transfer customers, Meta introduced that it’s going to discontinue Transfer, each within the headset’s Horizon OS and within the cellphone app, on March 31.

Meta claims that is taking place as a result of Transfer “depends on legacy know-how, which limits our skill to introduce new improvements for Quest customers”. In accordance with the corporate, discontinuing Transfer will enable it “to ship extra superior options to reinforce the Quest expertise”. Whether or not or not that is teasing a revamped Transfer arriving sooner or later is unclear.
