The fans of the couch co-op TTRPG-like game Sunderfolk already knew about developer Secret Door’s plan to release a second game in the RPG’s universe entitled Shadowstone. Well, that was this past February, and now is the time for the co-op roguelite to hit the wider stage of Steam, as it now has a playble demo for those who are eager for more anthropomorphic hero dungeon delving.
“Awakened within a shifting labyrinth, you and your fellow heroes must survive a brutal gauntlet of monsters and magic. Watched by an arcane entity known only as The Eye, you will fall, rise, and grow stronger with every attempt. Can you forge a party powerful enough to escape?”
The playable demo covers the first two acts of the game, including two boss fights, six challenges, and a total of six different characters to choose from, with solo play or party play that requires a minimum of two players and a total of four. Before each run, the party can select a ritual that grants power at a cost, while dealing with the corruption that twists the hex grid labyrinth that awaits. Combat leans deep into tactics and player movements setting up synergy and combos with others in the party, and heroes can unlock talents in a tree with every completed run.
The demo is effectively offering a slice of this RPG ahead of its wider inclusion in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, so if you happen to be curious and liked the kind of stew that Sunderfolk had cooking, maybe this one is also up your alley. A trailer for the game can be seen below otherwise.
