Welcome back to another roundup of MMOs and MMO-adjacent multiplayer games you’ve never heard of! We’ve got a pretty eclectic mixture for this roundup once more, and many of them have been around the block for a bit. Still, we do like to gather up what we can how we can, so let’s rake those leaves. Yep, we’re making autumn chore references; it’s the right time.

Ashes of Jin

We’ll begin with the most MMOsy of the lot, Ashes of Jin, a game that promises a living world where players craft, fight, and attempt to deal with the ever-present threat of the Jiangshi, a demonic attacker that actively hunts players, conquers territory, and supposedly is able to learn from and adapt to players… so in other words, it’s some gen AI construct. The game has been in a beta state for a few months now, with the most recent updates provided in its Discord this past August.

Bread & Fred

You might have seen this cute platformer around a few times: Bread & Fred casts two players as a pair of mountain climbing penguins who are lashed to each other by a length of rope, forcing players to work as a team to climb, swing, and surmount obstacles on the way to the summit. If you have one good friend and are up for testing the limits of that friendship, this might be your jam, though it also has a solo mode if you prefer.

No More Room in Hell 2

From the cute to the creepy, we close out this look with No More Room in Hell 2, a co-op zombie horror shooter that exited early access this past August. Up to eight players must find one another through proximity voice chat, while also managing limited resources and a horde of zombies across three different game modes. The game is already eyeing updates through the rest of this year and into next year that include new weapons, a new hell mode, and more maps, among other things.
