Mortal Shell 2’s First Update Brings Major Improvements to Exploration, Shells, and More

One of our biggest nitpicks with Mortal Shell 2, despite it being a phenomenal Souls-like in its own right, was that we didn’t get to try out all the Shells in a single playthrough. Tiel, Sariel, and Genessa usually make the cut, but if you’ve tried the latter, having your Faithful Doubles ignore that deadly foe in the midst of a battle, or just run off in the wrong direction entirely, could be quite unfortunate in a pinch.

Those are just two of the improvements in a long list as Cold Symmetry dropped the game’s first update over the weekend. A reworked approach to Tarstones and Glimpses means you get more of them in a single playthrough, and new items help you respec spent Glimpses immediately to unlock all tiers of a new Shell’s abilities. Those improvements alone would have been enough to turn New Game Plus a very attractive option, but they’re joined by more Beacons across the world and reworked rewards make exploring them again worthwhile.

We’re especially thrilled about the stash of Tarstones that’s waiting in your inventory when you boot up the game after the update, and can’t wait to try out the new Fragile Tarstones too. All in all, Mortal Shell 2 is even better, and that’s saying something.
