Alien Deathstorm’s Gamescom 2026 Demo Revealed in New Video Walkthrough

Developer Rebellion has released a new 24-minute-long gameplay walkthrough of its upcoming first-person horror shooter Alien Deathstorm. The video gives us a look at the “Reactor Meltdown” mission, which tasks the player with repairing a reactor that is seemingly damaged to the extent where a meltdown seems to be quite imminent.

The video starts off with a slow section where the protagonist is simply walking around to figure out what’s wrong with the reactor. Pretty quickly, however, his radar starts detecting some movement, which kicks off some action. While the threat ultimately ends up being a small group of facehuggers, the player still has to escape before a larger and more dangerous Xenomorph threat shows up.

Throughout the gameplay demo, the atmosphere is quite thick, especially once the protagonist starts exploring the substations to turn the power back on. The entire zone is covered in fog, which makes an environment that was already sparsely lit feel even more tense. The player has to throw flares to get lighting over a larger field so that they can make sure that they’re not wasting ammunition.

Exploration seems to be a key aspect of the gameplay in Alien Deathstorm, with the player slowly getting access to more and more of the map as he gets his hands on various keys or enables power to open up new doors. There also seem to be plenty of side quests to take on, and the player can track their current mission on their HUD.

The gameplay walkthrough culminates with the player finally opening up the reactor core and getting access to the Fission Initiator. This, however, is easier said than done, and the player is then forced to deal with hordes of enemies on his way to the objective. The video wraps up with the studio explaining that “this was just a glimpse into what you can expect to see when Alien Deathstorm releases in 2027.”

Alien Deathstorm is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The title is also slated to arrive on Game Pass on day one of its release.

Earlier this week, head of design Ben Fisher spoke about how the protagonist – known as the Engineer – arrives at the game’s location. He spoke about the lessons learned during the development of Atomfall that ended up helping with the sandbox-style gameplay structure of Alien Deathstorm.

Back in March, Fisher had spoken about some of the biggest inspirations for Alien Deathstorm, which included Lovecraftian eldritch horror and the VHS sci-fi aesthetic from the 1980s.

“We’ve been inspired by the slightly more analogue world of 1980s sci-fi, which is much more mechanical keyboard than it is touchscreen. We think it’s given our colony a chunky, lived-in aesthetic that has a genuinely unique feel. We’ve taken influences from everything from Lovecraftian eldritch horror to 1980s VHS sci-fi, so we think that people will be intrigued by what we’ve built.”

More details about Alien Deathstorm will likely be revealed as we get closer to its release in Spring.
