Hideo Kojima Shares Reflective Look At “The Time He Has Left” on His 63rd Birthday

It’s easy to forget that the Metal Gear Solid franchise, which isn’t even the start, is almost 28 years old. And even if it remains as iconic as ever, not even its creator, Hideo Kojima, can escape the passage of time, and it’s something the legendary director seems well aware of, if his thoughts about turning 63 are any indication.

He took to X to reflect on the years he’s had, and the things he wants to do with the time he’s got left. Good news: he wants to “remain focused on creating games”, and we’re hoping that OD is going to be enjoying a lot of that focus in the months to come before he brings it into the spotlight.

“As I get older, the things I ‘have to do’ and the things I ‘want to do’ continue to increase. At the same time, the time I ‘have to do them’ continues to decrease. I constantly need to reassess how I use my time and how I live my life.”

When you think about a career and legacy like the one he’s already managed to create, would it really be too much to think Kojima’s best years might be in front of him? We were happy that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was only his latest masterpiece, a common sentiment when he brings a new game to life.

Beyond OD, which is coming to Xbox, Kojima is also working on Physint, a new action espionage title in partnership with Sony. It’s still quite a ways off, however.
