MindsEye’s Latest Update Changes Its Ending

Alongside getting a strange new minigame in a recent update, MindsEye has also seemingly changed the ending of its storyline. According to social media account Everywhere NET, the new ending brings protagonist Jacob Diaz into an entirely new world where he is greeted by a mysterious figure. The ending also introduces a host of new concepts to MindsEye, including Jacob being “the first of the chosen” as well as reincarnation. Check it out below.

The update, dubbed Update 8, was released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S earlier this week, and has been described by developer Build a Rocket Boy as one of MindsEye’s biggest updates yet. Without revealing too many details, the studio said that it “deepens the single-player experience” of the game. Curiously, the only single-player addition listed in the patch notes was the Silva E-Series: Summer Circuits time trial race across the Redrock desert.

Digging deeper into the patch notes, some of the changes to the missions of MindsEye include a rework of the “A Strange Happening” mission, giving players a new cave to explore.

Headlining the update, as you can check out in our coverage, is the Grenade Football competitive multiplayer game mode that pits teams of five players each against each other. The game mode involves using grenade launchers to score goals in a fast-paced sport.

The last major update for MindsEye was released back in April. Dubbed Blacklisted, the update introduced a new series of missions where players took on the role of assassin Julia Black and were tasked with taking down two high-profile targets on behalf of the Meridian agency.

The update was released following plenty of controversy surrounding statements made by studio CEO and CTO Mark Gerhard, who claimed that MindsEye was affected by saboteurs.

“We’ve got very strong evidence of this and conducted quite thorough investigations over the months since launch. We’ve identified parties involved, and it’s now with the authorities both [in the] U.K. and U.S. to deal with. I can confirm that they’re assisting us with this investigation, but it’s also in their hands now. We’ll leave them to do what they do, make their arrests or any announcements in due course. I think we’re not saying anything further at this stage on that. We’ll just let the natural course of justice take its path.”

In the meantime, May 2026 also saw Build a Rocket Boy getting hit with a new round of layoffs that reportedly affected around 170 of its workers. These layoffs were confirmed by audio designer Tom Cross, lead designer James Tyler, QA analyst Gary Iain Gough, and level designer Leah Philpot, who took to LinkedIn to announce that they were no longer with the company.

Earlier this month, the studio also faced protests from its former employees due to an event that has been described as an “all-expenses-paid playtest day” meant to garner community interaction despite workers at Build a Rocket Boy getting laid off. The protest was organized by the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain.

Wait… MindsEye just got a NEW ending?!
