When all you have in a post-apocalyptic landscape is a sword and a wolf, surviving can be tough. That’s certainly the case for Beast of Reincarnation’s Emma and Koo, but they’re far from defenseless, as highlighted by a new combat overview trailer. Check it out below to learn the ins and outs of battle, starting with parrying.
While clearly inspired by the likes of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, right down to filling up a “Down” bar and executing foes, successful parries fill your FP bar. This lets you unleash Bloom Arts with Koo, which are more effective when timed properly à la Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Combat thus shifts back and forth between real-time hack-and-slash and command skills.
Depending on the Bloom Art (with Koo obtaining more after defeating the colossal Nushi), you can increase stagger on a foe and exploit their weakness to deal damage or bind multiple enemies together, allowing Emma to swing away. Of course, the latter unlocks her own set of special skills, including multi-hit slashes and leaping towards an enemy before delivering a massive downward strike.
If you peered at the skill tree long enough, you might have also noticed an ability to create some grass for Emma to crouch in for stealth. We haven’t seen many scenarios which would necessitate that, which means Beast of Reincarnation still has plenty to showcase ahead of its August 3rd release. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime and head here to learn just how long the experience is.
