PC VR fans were already swimming around in the strange yet oddly familiar depths of Proteus less than 24 hours after Subnautica 2‘s early access launch back in May. Now, you can even swim, dive, scan, and build structures with your own two hands.
Thanks to VR modder Joey Hodge, stereo rendering is a lot better than when we last checked in when people were still using PrayDog’s UEVR mod alone.
Another new addition is ‘jbusfield’s 6DOF motion control mod, which lets you configure a visible body, optional forearms, full two-bone inverse kinematics (IK) arms, articulated and animated hands, and the option to attach the UI to head movement.
LunchAndVR warns that users should install the mod at their own risk. As an early access title, updates are still coming hard and fast, which can break anything at anytime.
One of the biggest caveats right now is still performance. Even with LunchAndVR’s still very capable nVidia RTX 4090, intel i9-13900K and 64GB RAM, he suggests keeping everything between low and medium, and toggling off things like vertical sync, motion blur, underwater blur, and frame generation.
