Developer Panache Digital Games has unveiled its new project – 1666: Amsterdam – with a trailer during Summer Game Fest 2026. The trailer, which you can check out below, clocks in at over one and a half minutes in length and gives us a look at the overall narrative setup for the game, as well as some quick glimpses at the horrific creatures that players will have to face.

1666: Amsterdam is a third-person action-adventure game that features a dark fantasy aesthetic, with players taking on some horrifying enemies as they make their way through the world. Its plot revolves around entities known as the “Originals” having lived among the people of Amsterdam for several centuries, having accrued power and freedom over time.

Players take on the role of Noa Brooklyn – a Collector, raised by the Zaindaris for a single purpose – to drive back the malevolent forces that are doing the bidding of the Originals.

If that story setup sounds enticing to you, Panache Digital Games has also released a free playable prologue on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The studio has noted that the narrative teaser tells its own story while also introducing players to the game’s world, its characters, and the core mystery that forms the foundation of the plot in 1666: Amsterdam. It is expected to take players roughly 30 minutes to finish.

“It’s been a long time coming, and I couldn’t be prouder of our team of nearly 70 talented developers in Montreal,” said creative director Patrice Désilets. “For the past six years, we’ve focused on one thing above all else: the game itself. No fake footage, no vertical slices, just a playable experience evolving build after build, day after day.”

“Today, we’re finally ready to invite players into that process. The free prologue available now on Steam and Epic Games Store is only a small taste of what’s to come, an amuse-bouche before a nine-course dinner, an introduction to the world, its characters, and its different time periods. We hope players will enjoy discovering it as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it. Merci and Panache Coliss!”

As for the full game, Panache Digital Games has confirmed that 1666: Amsterdam will be coming to PC as an Early Access title this year. Console versions are also planned, albeit for a later date.
