Between the blockbuster success of Resident Evil Requiem, which sold seven million copies, and Pragmata crossing two million sales, Capcom has been on an incredible streak this year. Its next major release, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, has yet to receive a release date, but according to insider NateTheHate, it’s “well on track for this year.”
Not that Capcom has indicated otherwise, but it’s always good to hear that progress is going well. As for when a release date could be announced, there are two possible places: the next State of Play on June 2nd or the Summer Game Fest showcase on June 5th. The publisher has usually had a strong presence on both shows, so take your pick.
But when will it actually release? July or August is possible, especially since the team confirmed it was working on the “final stages” of development last March. September could be dicier with other high-profile titles like Marvel’s Wolverine, Phantom Blade Zero, The Blood of Dawnwalker and so on hogging attention. October will allegedly have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and November is a no-go because of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Time will tell, so stay tuned and check out a gameplay walkthrough of an early game mission here. You can also learn more about the various ordeals that Musashi has to face after inheriting the Oni Gauntlet here.
