Sections of both the Horizon Festival and the Discover Japan points systems in Forza Horizon 6’s Campaign Collection Journal depend heavily on use of the in-game Photo Mode. The benefits of duly completing tasks and earning these points come in the form of a variety of redeemable rewards.

This Forza Horizon 6 guide is all about mastering the in-game photography mode, in order to earn both Discover Japan Points and Horizon Festival Points.

Forza Horizon 6 Photo Mode Controls

Accessing the Photo Mode on a controller is as simple as pressing up on the D-pad, or ‘P’ on a keyboard.

Within Photo Mode you will find almost all functionality helpfully displayed as an array of button prompts at the bottom of the screen, based on your platform of choice.

Directionality and rotation is handled by the left and right thumbsticks on a controller, or the WASD and arrow keys on a keyboard.

Shortened keyboards that lack arrow keys can try the FN key + IJKL for camera rotation.

Controller triggers handle altitude or height, while that functionality is bound to the Page Up and Page Down keys on a keyboard.

Zooming on controllers is accomplished by clicking-in the thumbsticks, or Z and C on keyboards.

Mouse camera control appears to be bugged or simply unsupported at this time.

While you can spend hours experimenting with the Effects Mode, two notable settings are Shutter Speed and Focus: if you find that your photos are consistently blurry, tweak them lower till you find the right number. If all else fails, simply Reset to Default using the relevant button prompt on your platform.

Once you find a good setting that you are satisfied with, be sure to retain it as a preset.

Earning Points From Photo Mode

Almost instantly after taking a photo, you will see a screen listing anything new in your shot that contributes towards either major group in the Collection Journal, as separate columns. If nothing relevant was captured you will see ‘Nothing new in shot’ or ‘No new cars in shot’ as applicable. At the bottom of the screen are the nearest goals for either group, and the points required to unlock them.

The Discover Japan Photography milestones revolve entirely around photographing landmarks for 100 points apiece. This is relatively easy to accomplish as the locations are clearly stated and there are only 26 to find as of now.

The Horizon Festival’s Horizon Promo is far more involved, as it requires photographing 619 cars in the game currently for 10 points apiece. This will be quite a task to accomplish, but one simple tip you can make use of is to photograph the starting grid of any and every race you participate in, as the selection of vehicles will tend to be quite diverse, whether AI or real players. Be sure to make use of the Quickshot button prompt to avoid getting bogged down in additional menus and messing up your launch.

Also photograph any secret or dynamic cars that you stumble upon in the world, even if you cannot afford them.

That is everything there is to know about using Photo Mode and earning Points for Horizon Festival and Discover Japan milestones in the Collection Journal of Forza Horizon 6.
