The Subnautica 2 team has taken to Steam to announce that pre-purchases and pre-loading for are now open for those of you who don’t want to wait a minute more than necessary to get started with early access on May 14th.
That’s probably a good call considering the 5 million wishlists already garnered on all platforms, an indicator that this highly anticipated sequel probably should let players get in as soon as they can. The latest trailer showed off a gameplay loop that looked like it hadn’t lost any of the original game’s allure, while adding enough to make this a worthy follow-up.
If you’re unfamiliar, Subnautica 2 has you exploring an alien planet after your crew crashes on it in the hope of finding a better path. You could say the stakes are pretty high this time around.
Of course, we’re cautiously optimistic until we get to dive into it alongside the rest of you, but knowing that we can have the game queued up and ready to go the second its early access opens up is definitely something we’re quite happy about.
Just note that Subnautica 2 will remain in early access for at least two years, maybe even longer, depending on fan feedback. At least it’ll offer far more content than previous early access launches.
