Tokyo Game Show Teases A Big Announcement For May 12th

A cryptic image shared on the official X handle for the Tokyo Game Show has already sparked a lot of speculation about a potential addition to its line-up in September. It teases an announcement on May 12th with an image of a green loading bar.

We’re hearing a lot of chatter, most of it hopeful, about a potential Kingdom Hearts 4 reveal, which might actually be a possibility if you think back to that statement from game director Tetsuya Nomura, who stated the team was working towards the franchise’s 25th anniversary. That’s a potential 2027 release, which would mean a reveal around TGS 2026, and an announcement on May 12th could be good timing. However, we’d been quite scarce on news about this one since 2022, and we can’t discount the possibility that the rumors are wrong.

Of course, all of this is speculation until we hear an official announcement from Square Enix, and we’re not going to get our hopes up after 2024. We’d certainly be thrilled to hear that the next Kingdom Hearts is finally going to be in our hands, but it could be another game entirely. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out.

As for Tokyo Game Show 2026, it’s set for September 17th to 21st.
