While Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced won’t be seeing too many changes from the 2013 original, the latter’s lead scriptwriter, Darby McDevitt, has revealed that the remake will feature two brand new scenes written by him. As caught by social media user The Hidden One, McDevitt took to the Access the Animus Discord server to reveal this, calling one of the new scenes a “top five favorite” of his from throughout the game.

“I wrote two new scenes and amended one in the main story,” he wrote. “One of them is now a top-five favorite scene for me in [Black Flag]. I hope y’all love it. You’ll wonder why it was never there to begin with. And that’s because I didn’t conceive of it until recently!”

Ubisoft officially unveiled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced last week. The remake is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and is slated for a July 9th release. It was showcased with a pair of trailers giving us a glimpse at the game as a whole and some of its gameplay systems. The title will be priced at $59.99. A deluxe edition, priced at $69.99, is also available, which adds in some extra goodies.

As the reveal trailers showcased, the core combat and parkour systems have been overhauled in the remake. In a combat encounter, players can make use of perfect dodges or parries, which also allow the execution of up to four chained takedowns if the player can get the timing right. The parkour will take cues from the systems in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, giving players more traversal options like free jumping, side ejects, and back ejects.

In the following days, creative director Paul Fu confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will not feature any of the original game’s DLC content or its multiplayer. He said that the decision to leave these things out was made because the development team is “fully focused on Edward’s adventures in the Caribbean.” Fu also revealed that the modern-day sections will see some new additions in the form of “new moments that focus on Edward’s internal struggles.”

Producer Justin Ng has also confirmed through social media posts that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will feature blood as part of the base game, and that it will not be a feature sold through DLC. He also acknowledged fan feedback about the audio levels and VFX as shown in the trailers. “There WILL be blood in the final game, and it will not be a paid DLC,” he said. “We hear the feedback on the VFX and audio cues on fights. It’s being toned down.”

More recently, we also got to see a stylized rendition of the in-game map from Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, confirming that the world as a whole won’t see many changes from the original. However, the maps might use different scales, so the sizes of landmasses might end up being larger than Black Flag.
