Absolute Batman revealed for the next Lego Batman game

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is just over a month away, and several alternate costumes for the Lego hero have been revealed in the lead-up to the game’s launch. You’ll be able to don the colorful Zur-En-Arrh suit as well as samurai armor from the Batman Ninja film. But none are as cool as the one Warner Bros. Games and DC shared Wednesday.

A new trailer starring seminal Batman writer Scott Snyder reveals that Absolute Batman will be making his way to Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight as an alternate suit in all his spiky glory. “To see our stuff in there means the world,” Snyder says. “It looks fantastic.” Snyder is the writer of Absolute Batman, a new take on the character that strips him down to his core as a hero. He isn’t rich, doesn’t have a butler, and wasn’t trained by any master assassins.

Instead, Absolute Batman is a construction worker with the mind of an engineer. He’s an absolutely beefed-up unit of a hero who’d tower over NFL linebackers. He also has friends (gasp!) that you’ll surely recognize, like Absolute Catwoman, who will be in the game, complete with her shiny silver helmet.

There are other twists and changes to Absolute Bruce Wayne, and I won’t give them all away here, since part of the fun of the Absolute Universe comics is discovering the ways the new series reimagines DC’s heroes. One notable difference between mainline Batman and Absolute Batman, though, is that the latter uses an axe in battle. That axe isn’t shown in the trailer, so it’s likely the Absolute Batman skin is just cosmetic, and may not change up Batman’s moveset.

Legacy of the Dark Knight was revealed last summer at Gamescom, where gamexplore got to play it. “In terms of blocky designs and top-notch animation quality, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was exactly what I expected when I played the demo,” our preview said. It’ll take inspiration from various Batman films, like the Michael Keaton movies and 2022’s The Batman. Scenes pulled straight from Batman films were parodied in the reveal trailer, like Bane and Batman’s clash in The Dark Knight Rises.

Pre-orders are now available for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Anyone who pre-orders will receive a Batsuit inspired by The Dark Knight Returns, while those who opt for the deluxe edition will be able to start playing on May 19. The deluxe edition will include additional cosmetics and DLC missions where you can play as The Joker and Harley, to be released later in 2026. Head to the game’s official site for full details on the deluxe edition.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be released May 22 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. It’ll come to Nintendo Switch 2 at a later date.
