Not quite a year ago, we covered a fun little Kickstarter for a cozy game called Hidalgo. Built and crowdfunded by Spanish developer Infinite Thread Games, the game is based on Miguel de Cervantes’ classic novel Don Quixote, but in a cozy co-op tabletop style that is adorable at first glance. The devs pulled in $57,000 US on that Kickstarter – so what’s it been up to since launching its Steam demo back then?
Lots, apparently. We got PR yesterday with a fresh “reveal” of the game from Infinite Threat and its publisher, Loopr Partners, with a new video too and a promise to launch on Steam in 2026 with environmental puzzle-solving, local co-op, and “family-friendly boss encounters.”
“Hidalgo invites players into a handcrafted puppet world built from recycled materials, where imagination and reality intertwine,” the PR says. “Across three vibrant chapters, players will accompany Don Quijote, his loyal companion Sancho Panza, and Sancho’s donkey Rucio on whimsical adventures inspired by the most iconic moments from the classic novel. from battling windmills to ruling an island and pursuing the love of Dulcinea. But Hidalgo tells more than just Quijote’s story. The story runs parallel to the emotional journey of a modern-day family who bring this world to life through handmade creations. As the children face challenges including bullying and personal loss, their struggles mirror Don Quijote’s own trials, creating a powerful narrative about imagination, resilience, and the strength of family bonds.”
Not an MMO, sure, but still one to keep an eye on for local co-op fans.
