Publisher Nacon and developer Spiders have released a new trailer for GreedFall: The Dying World, this time around focusing on the various companions that players will get to meet throughout their adventure. Check out the trailer, which clocks in at over a minute and a half in length, below.
In total, the title will feature eight distinct companions, with the fate of each being in the hands of the player. Depending on your choices throughout the main campaign, the companions can choose to either stand by your side, or leave you due to disagreements. Along with the story itself, the companions will also play vital roles in fights, with each one having their own unique skill trees based on their background and specialty. Along with this, players will get to manually control their companions during combat, or allow them to make their own choices.
Each companion will also have their own personal quests that revolve around their backstories, motivations, and ambitions. Their relationship with the player will also change depending on these quests, with outcomes ranging from deeper and more meaningful relationships to intense rivalries, and even friendship and romance.
The companions available throughout the story of GreedFall: The Dying World are Alvida, Fausta, Ludwig, Nílan, Safia, Sheda, Sybille and Till. Each one of them has unique backgrounds, ranging from a mastery of navigation and maritime exploration thanks to the time they spent in the Naut guild, to a bitter soldier that refuses to be called a hero, to a former captain of the Coin Guard, and even a childhood friend.
GreedFall: The Dying World initially hit Early Access back in September 2024. While it has seen a mixed reception since then, the studio has continued to release updates with story additions and other improvements for the game. You can check out more details of its original release in our review, where we gave it a score of 6 out of 10. We praised its environments, visuals and writings, but found quite a few problems from pathfinding and target selection, to a lack of impact in the game’s decision-making systems.
Among the new content added to the title have been the City of Stars, Olima, and The Hub, as well as the companions. The first major one of these updates was released back in March 2025, bringing with it the Hub – the player’s very own ship.
The title was originally released as GreedFall 2: The Dying World. Back in December, however, the studio decided to remove the “2” from its name. In a community post, Spiders said that the change came about due to the sense that the name was a “little confusing at times as the game isn’t technically a sequel.”
While development on GreedFall: The Dying World has been ongoing, things haven’t been perfect at the studio. July 2025 saw lay-offs hitting Spiders focusing on the animation and rigging team.
GreedFall: The Dying World is exiting Early Access on PC on March 12th. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will also be coming out on the same day.
