God of War Sons Of Sparta’s Composer Dives Into Its Soundtrack In A New Trailer

Bear McCreary, who has previously composed soundtracks for God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok, elaborates on his return to the franchise with Sons of Sparta in the Symphony of Sparta trailer that PlayStation just dropped.

He’s clearly put a lot of thought and effort into a soundtrack that has stayed with us even after we rolled the credits, blending the game’s visuals, narrative, and context into a distinct tune. It certainly underlines the relationship that develops between Kratos and his brother Deimos in their effort to prove themselves as true Spartans.

“I realized it really wouldn’t make sense to quote any of the music I wrote for the Norse saga. It didn’t make sense, really, to quote any music from even the Greek games because they were very different stories…Sons of Sparta’s soundtrack is a bit unique in that it does blend these this modern orchestral and fire elements with these authentic retro sounds.”

We’d say that his efforts have borne fruit, bringing a unique tune to Kratos’ younger days while managing to call back to the games that have brought the franchise to where it is today. With McCreary’s past association with the God of War franchise and Mega Cat’s expertise in retro titles, Sons of Sparta does have a soundtrack that you might catch yourself humming long after you’ve put down your controllers.
