Control Resonant’s Release Date is Just “Speculation”, Says Communications Director

Since the official unveiling of Control Resonant during The Game Awards, the title has already been the subject of quite a bit of speculation regarding its release date. This was further boosted thanks to Remedy Entertainment’s recent earnings report where it revealed a Q2 2026 release window for the upcoming game.

To prevent rumours and speculation from getting out of control (pun intended) as soon as possible, Remedy’s communication director Thomas Puha has taken to social media to note that the studio hasn’t communicated any confirmed release date for the game.

“Remedy has only ever communicated that the release window of Control Resonant is 2026,” he wrote. “Anything else is speculation.”

Remedy has described the highly anticipated sequel to Control as its “most ambitious game” so far. Taking to social media, the studio noted that it wanted to challenge itself with Control Resonant, and see how far it could push its boundaries. “We wanted to challenge ourselves to make the biggest and most ambitious game we’ve ever made. This is not a safe sequel. We want to push the boundaries of what we can do, and we believe after 7 years it’s what you, the fans, deserve,” it wrote.

Rather than featuring Control protagonist Jesse Faden as our hero once again, Control Resonant will instead put players in the shoes of her brother, Dylan Faden. In another radical shift from its predecessor, rather than focusing on ranged combat, Control Resonant will instead emphasize melee combat as our new protagonist fights his way through Manhattan.

On the subject of Dylan Faden, Remedy had released a breakdown of its unveiling trailer to provide more details about the character. For instance, while Dylan’s journey will revolve around looking for his sister Jesse, there are also other characters that he will meet and befriend along the way. The larger story will involve a “world-ending threat” that has hit Manhattan, with the FBC (Federal Bureau of Control) having dispatched Dylan to help.

Co-creative director Mikael Kasurinen has confirmed that Control Resonant will be an “open-ended” action RPG. “This world is alive, strange, and replayable – full of discoveries that reward curiosity and exploration,” he said last month.

Control was released all the way back in 2019, with a story that revolved around Jesse Faden entering the FBC headquarters at the Oldest House in her hunt for her missing brother Dylan. However, things quickly started getting out of hand once she learned about the Hiss invading reality, the Oldest House itself being in turmoil, and the previous head of the FBC, Zacharian Trench, being dead. Jesse takes on Trench’s mantle of Director, and with her Service Weapon, she sets out to explore the winding and constantly-shifting architecture of the Oldest House.

Part of the larger “Remedy-verse”, Control would eventually get a DLC that tied in its events to those of Alan Wake. Along with this, Alan Wake 2 would also go a long way in bridging the worlds of the two games thanks to the presence of FBC agents in its story.
